When your whole church is nervous for you…

Quick, grab your drum!

(or tin can and chopsticks)

It’s time to get percussive!

Little Music Church is BIG on percussion and making music.

Children love to play along to songs, so why not give them a song that teaches them to obey Jesus while banging out BOOM BADDA BOOM BOOM!

Introducing Master Of The Music!

Now to Hugo.

Hugo, our youngest son, has a rare genetic syndrome which means he learns in an unconventional way.

But he loves music… especially the drums!

A little while ago it was Hugo’s turn to participate in the children’s segment of our Sunday morning church service. Each week children would take turns to share something with the congregation - usually a scripture or short testimony.

Since he loved drumming, we decided that Hugo might perform Master Of The Music.

The thing was, we had NO IDEA whether he would co-operate!

He had played it plenty of times at home, but to play it at church, on cue, in front of the congregation was a completely different story…

That morning when his turn came around it was difficult to even convince him to walk onto the stage.

A palpable nervousness spread throughout the congregation.

The music began.

Hugo stared off into space.

I wondered if this would all be a massive flop.

But then it came to the boom booms, and he began.

Hugo didn’t miss a beat. He copied each part perfectly. He even added fills!

The atmosphere in the building took a sudden shift, as the church family went from nervous trepidation to excitement (and relief) as Hugo continued to drum his way through the song.

As he finished the final crash of the cymbals, Hugo received an almighty cheer.

Music reaches children.

Children who otherwise may struggle to listen and learn, like our Hugo, can learn about God and enjoy Him through music and movement.

This is Little Music Church.

Keep growing in Him!

My older children say this song is “inappropriate”. Can’t imagine why!
