Dance Music — Really Steph?

I first wrote Biggest Fan in March 2017.

I was standing in my kitchen when the idea came, taken by the thought of being in God’s fan club.

I pictured a whole room of children praising God with colourful Pom-Poms shaking in their hands.

Back then it was early days.

When we first started writing and recording children’s songs we had a band of 3 musicians — my husband Terry on guitar/drums, Aunty Tash Baulis (nee Ferroff) on double bass, and me on piano.

(You can hear this OG Trio in Whatever You Do — OUT NOW!)

Over time our sound developed and expanded, as we experimented with different genres and musicians.

By 2017 Paul Karic — electric and bass guitars — and Dave Katona — drums — had joined us. (These guys are responsible for that awesome sound in The Most Excellent Way.)

But it wasn’t until recently that Terry and I were inspired to have a go at up-beat, dance type music.

My husband has loved working with electronic sounds and dance beats ever since he was a punk kid in high school. (Terry and his brother Craig wrote their first techno songs on the 1997 Windows Software Dance eJay)

But I wasn’t as skilled.

Biggest Fan was still laying around untouched since I had recorded a demo in 2017. I dug it out and completely re-wrote it (you wouldn’t recognise the original!)

Then we made the Pom-Poms (remember the vision I had of children shaking pompoms praising God?)

(As craft is NOT my thing I was particularly thankful that day to have my many home-schooled children’s hands to help!)

And our first dance song* was ready to try!

Here’s our Kids Church testing out Biggest Fan…

Success!

Have a listen! (Better still, shake some Pom-Poms!)

* Biggest Fan was one of 3 dance songs we wrote around the same time. The others — Know You and The Joy Of The Lord Is My Strength will be released on future albums.
