And now for the backstory…
It was early 2020, and Easter was approaching.
Our beautiful local church—the birthplace of Little Music Church—had our hearts set on something new. For years, we had put on Christmas productions, but this time, we wanted to make Easter just as big.
So, we wrote a bunch of songs telling the Easter story. We organised props, skits, and interactive elements. Elderly ladies in our congregation sewed scarves. Our resident woodworker handcrafted rhythm sticks to give away to children. Church members memorised lines for skits. We envisioned a big family event, welcoming both churchgoers and visitors alike.
Flyers were designed. Invitations were sent.
Our Easter concert was going to be huge!
And then… the Melbourne lockdowns began.
At first, we thought we might still go ahead. But within days, the reality set in: we would all be in our own homes on Easter Sunday.
No concert.
I was disappointed—but not for long. Because when God gives you a vision, it cannot be quenched.
I spoke with our team, and we decided to press on. If we couldn’t have a live Easter concert, we’d have a virtual one! We had just two weeks to pull it off.
I had never made a video in my life.
But families banded together. People filmed their own parts at home. Those with editing skills pieced footage together into videos.
Musicians recorded their instruments separately and sent the tracks to Paul, our sound engineer, who brought it all together.
Our pastor, who was allowed to make brief home visits, personally delivered the handmade scarves and rhythm sticks to families with children—so they could still be involved on the day, even from their lounge rooms.
Then on Easter morning, our virtual concert aired.
Despite the rushed timeline (and amateur lighting!) we faithfully told the story of Jesus’ ministry, death, and resurrection.
We celebrated Him.
And His gospel filled our homes.
The songs on Yahoo Hooray Hallelujah! are a selection from that unforgettable Easter in 2020.
May they bring the truth of the gospel into your home this Easter!
